Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is a game in which the player must solve logic puzzles in order to unravel the mystery behind and stop the Masked Gentleman who is terrorising the city of Monte d’Or with frightening miracles. The game has a unique presentation, with a distinct art style, cel animation and soundtrack that immerse the player in the story. The puzzles in the  Professor Layton series of games are based on a series of Tago brain-teaser books that have been released in Japan. These puzzles have been optimised for the Nintendo 3DS system, incorporating the Touch Screen and often the 3D Screen. Each puzzle has a number of hints, and successful completion of each puzzle is rewarded with points (termed “Picarats”), which unlock bonus material in the game. The story takes place before the first-released game of the series, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and follows on from Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call  and the anime Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. (From henceforth the game is referred to as Miracle Mask).This is a fifth game in the franchise, and the first for Nintendo 3DS.
